Students in Art and Design Education hold posters of the artwork produced by children in the Saturday Art School

The Department of Art and Design Education is dedicated to fostering a supportive and generous community. We are constantly thinking of innovative ways to make sure that we are actively supporting our students and facilitating their progress through our programs. ADE students have an open-access shared studio space that is well supplied with materials, tools and equipment. In addition, ADE students have access to institute-wide workshops and labs including those dedicated to classes in their ‘studio-cores.’ The ADE gallery space, the Nancy Ross Project Space, is utilized throughout the year to mount individual and group exhibitions. The Program Learning Guide shares all of the policies and information needed to succeed in the department. All information needed for our clinical experiences: fieldwork, student teaching in K-12 public schools and other settings including Saturday Art School, a laboratory school for children ages 6-18 from Brooklyn’s many neighborhoods, data protection and certification have been compiled by faculty and staff into easily accessible resources.
