Culturally Responsive Teaching in Art Education K-12

In this video about culturally relevant pedagogy in the art classroom, Professor Katherine Huala is seen teaching art to a 4th-grade class at East Elmhurst Community School.

Zaretta Hammond’s research on culturally relevant pedagogy (Hammond, 2015) and Project Zero’s Eight Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland et al., 2013) offer a framework for this instructional video in art education. This framework supports the preparation and ongoing professional development of K-12 teachers in art and design.

Funding for this video was provided by Pratt’s School of Art Faculty Research and Innovation Award (2022-23).
