SoA Dean Quilian Riano was featured in the Archinect article “What’s Next for Architecture Education? 25 Deans and Directors Weigh in as the 2026 School Year Starts.” He is among 25 deans, directors, and chairs considering “themes of adaptation, interdisciplinary collaboration, emerging technologies, research, housing, climate resilience, and public engagement recur alongside more fundamental questions about the discipline itself.”

“Building on last year’s impactful dialogues on housing with practitioners, civic leaders, and community members through our events series (FA25, SP26), the Pratt Institute School of Architecture is continuing our initiatives on this important topic. Our deep dive into sustainable, collaborative models of living is energizing our curriculum and partnerships, such as a collaboration with the University of Miami School of Architecture on a series of housing studios in Miami and here in New York City.
To channel this momentum, we are launching an expansive framework in the Spring semester with a curated exhibition of student and faculty housing work from all our programs, a symposium, and a transdisciplinary student workshop looking at an urgent housing challenge in our neighborhood. Together, these events are helping us shape the planning of a new minor on housing for our Bachelor of Architecture degree. Our goal is to bring together design innovation, community engagement, and policy reform to help our students and larger community imagine the next generation of sustainable and equitable living.”
