On behalf of the Pratt Institute’s Department of Campus Safety, I’d like to thank you for taking time to visit the Department’s home page. From the Campus Safety home page, you will be able to navigate to essential Pratt Campus Safety Information concerning personal safety, security, crime prevention and fire safety tips, parking information, campus emergency alerts, and much more. Our Department is committed to maintaining and fostering a student-centered, learning-focused campus, in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, where students from all backgrounds can feel welcome and supported; as well as the protection of personal property, equipment, and facilities. 

The members of the Pratt Campus Safety team are highly trained public safety professionals, responsible for ensuring best practices are followed in the areas of campus safety, security, and emergency management. The members of our Department are on-duty 24/7 to provide public safety services, as well as peace of mind, to the Pratt Institute. As a campus community, I would ask each of you to partner with our department, as it is the responsibility of all students, faculty, and staff, to collaborate with Pratt Campus Safety to ensure a safe, secure and crime free campus. Should you encounter an unsafe situation, witness an accident or crime, or observe suspicious activity, I would request you promptly report the matter to our department, so that we may investigate the situation and respond accordingly.

• Pratt Safe App – Free mobile campus safety app, developed by the Department of Campus Safety.
• Security Updates and Safety Alerts – The Pratt Emergency Alert System is the quickest way to get vital information about building or campus emergencies.
• Emergency Response Guide – Provides information on what to do in the case of an emergency situation and instructions on signing up for the Pratt Emergency Alert System.
• Safety & Prevention – Provides community members with valuable safety resources, training, crime prevention lectures, and discussions.
• Campus Security Committee – Pratt’s Campus Security Committee (CSC) acts as a forum for reviewing and improving campus security and safety policies and procedures. 
• Annual Reports and Statistics – The Annual Security and Fire Safety Compliance Report includes Pratt Institute’s security policies, crime statistics, and on-campus student residential facilities’ fire safety policies and data. This report is published annually by the Pratt Department of Campus Safety.
• Sex Offender Registry & Notifications – Includes information on Title IX and Pratt’s Sexual Misconduct Policy.
• Self-Defense Classes – Teaches awareness, avoidance, space management, and a system of resisting assaults using simple to learn gross-body movements that take advantage of your natural instincts, which are easier to remember under stress.
• Mobility Assistance – Campus Safety and the Learning/Access Center have partnered to assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors requiring mobility assistance via golf cart or campus vehicle 24 hours per day.
• Parking & Permits – Request a Yearly Parking Permit.
• Pratt Shuttle Monday–Friday Schedule

Many resources have been developed by other government and academic institutions to inform the public on what they should do to improve their chances of survival during and Active Shooter situation. Here are a few:

Booklet: “Active Shooter: How to Respond,” produced by the Department of Homeland Security.

Video: “RUN, HIDE, or FIGHT,” a grant-funded project of the Regional Catastrophic Planning Initiative from the Department of Homeland Security that includes instructions for the workplace. It was produced by the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security.
