Interior Design, Core Year

Applicants to the MFA Interior Design program with no previous degree in Interior Design or Architecture benefit from being admitted to Pratt’s unique, one-year 24 credit Core year, prior to the start of the 60 credit MFA degree.

The Core year curriculum is run with the goal of fully preparing students with the necessary skills required to be on equal footing with MFA students already holding design degrees.

By challenging you to think conceptually, to test and experiment with color and materials, learning to fully represent your ideas in 2 and 3 dimension, while learning design history to contextualize your work, the Core year positions you for success in the MFA program.

As you acquire new skills, your previous education, life skills and interests will impact how you understand spatial environments and consequently help to evolve the discipline and the practice of Interior Design.

Advance standing of up to 12 credits is possible.
