The Pratt M.F.A. in Writing is thrilled to have a unique collaborative arrangement with Marble House Project, an extraordinary artist residency in Dorset, Vermont. During their final semester the entire graduating student cohort, along with a faculty member, spends 10 days in residence at Marble House Project, where they have the gift of writing spaces, studios, and performance spaces, allowing all students the time and quiet needed to work on their final theses. The residency itself, and the travel to and from Dorset, is free for all participating students. The residency culminates in a reading and performance by the residents for the local community in southern Vermont.
Marble House Project is a multi-disciplinary artist residency program that fosters collaboration and the exchange of ideas by providing an environment for artists across disciplines to live and work. With a focus on conservation of natural resources, Marble House Project is founded on the belief that the act of creating, whether in the studio or in nature, is how human potential expands and community thrives.
The residency offers students crucial support at an important moment in their writing practice, and it amplifies the shared values of both the Pratt M.F.A. in Writing and Marble House Project: food justice, environmental justice, sustainability, and developing new collaborative ways to feel, think, make, act.
