PreCollege

A classroom workshop scene where an instructor in a black cap and gray shirt is demonstrating to students. He gestures toward a realistic hand sculpture placed on a wooden table, alongside another model. A student with curly hair and a black shirt stands next to him, observing closely, while other students sit around the table watching. The background shows a woodworking studio with safety gear, tools, and wooden boards.

College classes for high school students, taught by Pratt faculty.

Pratt’s PreCollege program gives high school artists, designers, and creative thinkers the opportunity to experience college-level learning in art and design. Students explore their passions, build portfolio-ready work, and join a thriving community of creatives.

Classes are taught by Pratt faculty and mirror undergraduate majors and minors including fine art, fashion, graphic design, architecture, animation, creative writing, and more.

Pratt PreCollege is open to students ages 15 – 18 who are currently enrolled in high school or an equivalent program. No prior experience is required, just curiosity, commitment, and a passion for creating.

“It was incredible spending my summer on Pratt’s Brooklyn campus with other immensely talented art and design students, I loved having the opportunity to interact with students from all over the globe. There’s great value in hearing diverse perspectives and exchanging ideas with others.”

A young woman with long curly hair stands in front of two framed paintings on a gallery wall. One painting depicts a woman in a portrait style, and the other shows a figure painting outdoors in a landscape. The student smiles, suggesting she may be the artist presenting her work.

PreCollege students will:

  • Earn college credit*
  • Create portfolio ready work
  • Meet like-minded students from around the world
  • Receive personalized feedback (average of 11 students per instructor)
  • Develop critical thinking skills as they critique their work and develop their creative voice as an artist, designer, architect, or writer

*An official Pratt transcript is available to students after completion of all credit-bearing classes; transcripts are accepted at most colleges and universities.

“My daughter was in her element. Being surrounded by like-minded, creative people and immersed in a culture of creativity and expression, has energized her and opened up possibilities for her.”

Two students stand indoors, looking at a wall covered with colorful posters and printed images. They appear to be discussing the display, gesturing with their hands. The posters feature text, graphics, and artwork in a collage-like arrangement.

Three young women stand outdoors on a grassy area near a large sculptural head. One holds a drink, another smiles with her hand on her hip, and the third poses casually. Behind them is a brick building and trees, suggesting a campus or park setting.
