INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN

Study the foundation of graphic design as a communication tool and learn the importance of graphic design as an informative and promotional presence in commerce and society. What is the designer’s role as a communicator and innovator of design? Develop the creative, technical, and business skills needed to reach a specific target audience. Learn the steps to create a project from concept through execution. Improve the visual quality of the final artwork through the use of high-resolution imagery and dynamic composition. Create a magazine layout, logo design for product or service, brochure and poster design, unique folds, die cuts, and paper engineering. Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator will be used.

INTRODUCTION TO TYPOGRAPHY 
PMGD-466

Embark on a broad exploration of the art, science and craft of typography from a historic, cultural, technological and practical perspective. Gain exposure to the principles and reasoning behind the use of type as the medium for written language and content. Learn how to design typography for optimal reading, communication hierarchy, and graphic impact through a variety of real-world assignments and exercises. Understand approaches and perspectives on typographic practice from masters of the craft. Investigate type families and letter forms to understand terminology and analyze structure, style, and sensibility. Differentiate between analytic and optical methods for typographic design. Become fully conversant in the terminology, rationale and practice of typography in a wide range of business and creative contexts. Prerequisites: Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

BRAND DESIGN AND CORPORATE IDENTITY
PMGD-478

A brand is everything a company, product, or organization represents in our collective consciousness. Learn the craft of brand expression and how it flows from brand strategy and business objectives to perception in the minds of consumers and the public at large. Gain practical experience in the systematic creation of corporate identities, marks and logotypes with established techniques that combine typography and symbology. Analyze brand systems and architectures through the lens of business verticals and customer experience. Gain exposure to real world scenarios that trigger re-brands, brand refreshes and new brand creation. Master the process of systematic brand design and presentation with a variety of assignments and exercises using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
