Professional Licensure and Certification Disclosures

The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program and the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for professional degree programs in architecture. The Master of Landscape Architecture (M.L.A.) program) was granted candidacy status by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) in August 2024, and is working closely with the organization to ensure the program is on track to achieve full accreditation in 2026.

In addition, the B.Arch., M.Arch., and M.L.A. programs are registered by the New York State Education Department pursuant to New York Education Law and the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. As registered programs, they meet the educational requirements for licensure as an architect or landscape architect, as applicable, in New York State. Following a good-faith review conducted for purposes of compliance with 34 CFR § 668.43, Pratt Institute has determined that the B.Arch., M.Arch., and M.L.A. programs meet the educational requirements for licensure as architect or landscape architect, as applicable, in all U.S. states and territories. Graduates of Pratt Institute’s B.F.A and M.F.A. programs in Art and Design Education satisfy the educational requirements for certification in New York State (Visual Arts, all grades).

As of December 2025, the all 50 states and other jurisdictions listed below have signed the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement, which makes it possible for an educator who completed an approved program and/or who holds a certificate or license in one jurisdiction to earn a certificate or license in another: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Dept of Defense Education Activity, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Receiving states may impose certain special requirements which must be met in a reasonable period of time. Information about specific state-by-state requirements can be found through NASDTEC.

Pratt’s M.P.S. program in Art Therapy and Creativity Development is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of The Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE). This helps to assure quality education and program improvement, and that when our graduates apply for the ATR (Registered Art Therapist), the Art Therapy Credentialing Board (ATCB) accepts their coursework and requires 1,000 (rather than 1,500) post-graduate hours. After accumulating paid working hours and attending to other requirements, graduates may apply for the ATR-BC (Board Certified Art Therapist), which enables them to supervise and teach.

Pratt’s M.S. program in Dance/Movement Therapy is approved by the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA). Graduates of Pratt are automatically eligible to apply for the R-DMT (Registered Dance/Movement Therapist) credential upon graduation. After accumulating paid working hours and attending to other requirements, graduates may apply for the BC-DMT (Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist), which enables them to conduct a private practice. 

Both programs are registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure-qualifying programs in Creative Arts Therapy, meeting the educational requirements for the LCAT (Licensed Creative Arts Therapist) in New York State. Because the LCAT credential does not exist in other states, the Institute has determined that these programs do not meet the state educational requirements for licensure as a Creative Arts Therapist in any other state or territory.

There are varied pathways to licensure for mental health professionals. Some creative arts therapists practice under other licenses, such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or similar. Students who intend to work outside of New York State and/or intend to seek licensure under a different credential than the LCAT should contact the department’s Assistant Chair for Clinical Training to discuss whether the program meets educational requirements for that specific license in their intended state of employment.
