The National Art Education Association (NAEA) and the School of Continuing & Professional Studies (SCPS) at Pratt have partnered to provide NAEA members with the opportunity to earn continuing education units (CEUs). This collaboration provides a structured pathway for members to enhance their professional journey by earning and tracking CEUs through NAEA’s professional development offerings.
NAEA School for Art Leaders: Empowering Art Educators to Transformative Leadership
School for Art Leaders (SAL) is a flagship program designed to develop 21st-century leaders. The program is hosted at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and is dedicated to empowering art educators in their journey to become transformative leaders. Through experiential, action-learning modules and in-depth discussions with expert leaders, participants will gain invaluable skills and insights necessary for effective leadership in any environment.
NAEA has been instrumental in shaping art education since 1947, with art educators from various backgrounds contributing to its leadership. The SAL curriculum is specifically designed for art educators based on recommendations by NAEA’s Leadership Development Task Force. It incorporates five foundational leadership models: the NAEA Art Educator Competency Model, the Thurber–Zimmerman Empowerment/Leadership Model, Mindful Leadership, Total Leadership, and Emotional Intelligence, along with strategies for promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in leadership.
Selected students join an annual cohort dedicated to leadership excellence and, upon completion, will become part of the national SAL network, enhancing their roles in education, the arts, and advocacy. The program emphasizes the unique skills of art educators, such as effective planning, adaptability, and creative problem solving. By fostering a diverse group of peers and providing access to valuable resources and experiential learning, the program prepares students to step into leadership roles and mentor emerging leaders within their professional communities.
Continuing Education Units
Pratt SCPS is the authorized provider of CEUs for NAEA. Pratt CEUs recognize the learner’s successful completion of NAEA courses. Pratt adheres to the industry standard of awarding 1 CEU for every 10 instructional hours. CEUs awarded result in an official transcript and digital credentials (via Credly) from Pratt Institute, which can be shared on professional networking sites such as LinkedIn, as well as included in résumés, portfolios, and annual evaluations.
Please email Laura Grundler, NAEA Director of Learning and Program Development, at lgrundler@arteducators.org to apply for CEUs.
