National Art Education Association

This collaboration provides a structured pathway for members to enhance their professional journey by earning and tracking CEUs through NAEA’s professional development offerings.

NAEA School for Art Leaders: Empowering Art Educators to Transformative Leadership

School for Art Leaders (SAL) at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art develops transformative leaders among art educators. Participants engage in experiential learning and discussions with experts to acquire vital leadership skills.

Since 1947, the NAEA has advanced art education, with its curriculum tailored by the Leadership Development Task Force. It includes five key leadership models: the NAEA Art Educator Competency Model, Thurber–Zimmerman Empowerment/Leadership Model, Mindful Leadership, Total Leadership, and Emotional Intelligence, emphasizing equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Participants become part of an annual cohort, joining the national SAL network upon completion, enhancing their roles in education, the arts, and advocacy. The program fosters essential skills in planning, adaptability, and creative problem solving, while building a diverse community and providing mentoring resources.

Continuing Education Units

Pratt SCPS is the authorized provider of CEUs for NAEA. Pratt CEUs recognize the learner’s successful completion of NAEA courses. Pratt adheres to the industry standard of awarding 1 CEU for every 10 instructional hours. CEUs are awarded as an official transcript from Pratt Institute. Note, SAL students can also receive digital credentials (via Credly) which can be shared on professional networking sites such as LinkedIn, as well as included in résumés, portfolios, and annual evaluations.

To apply for SAL CEUs, email Laura Grundler, NAEA Director of Learning and Program Development, at lgrundler@arteducators.org to apply for CEUs.
