Understanding Institutional Climate & Tracking Progress
Pratt uses surveys, institutional data, community input, assessments, and other evidence to understand how people experience the Institute and where attention is needed. No single measure tells the whole story. Read together, these sources can help Pratt identify patterns, ask better questions, set priorities, and examine change over time.
The Office of Engagement, Culture & Community (ECC) coordinates institutional climate work and helps connect findings to institutional learning and action. The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) is Pratt’s authoritative source for official institutional data and provides expertise in survey development, research, analysis, data integrity, and reporting.
Campus Climate Survey
The Campus Climate Survey allows current students, faculty, and staff to share perspectives about learning, working, participation, access, support, and community life at Pratt. The ECC sponsors and coordinates the survey in partnership with the OIRA, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Human Resources, Institutional Equity & Title IX, and other offices responsible for subjects addressed within the survey.
Survey findings help Pratt identify patterns in reported experience and questions that require continued attention. Findings are considered alongside other institutional data, qualitative research, community feedback, survey design, methodological limitations, and participation rates. They serve as one source of information for institutional planning, policies, programs, services, and assessment.
Survey topics include:
- Engagement, community, belonging, and campus culture.
- Accessibility, disability, and awareness of campus resources.
- Respectful learning and working environments.
- Title IX, nondiscrimination, and harassment prevention.
- Safety, well-being, bias, discrimination, and institutional response.
- Student, faculty, and staff experiences across roles and identities.
Participating In A Current Survey
When a survey is open, eligible students, faculty, and staff receive an individual email invitation with participation instructions and a personalized, single-use link. Participation is voluntary. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

How findings are reported
Results are reported in aggregate and include safeguards to minimize identifiable data points. All survey findings include the number of invitees, participants, and participation rate; the survey period; relevant methods; reporting thresholds; limitations; and any changes that may affect comparisons with earlier surveys.
Describe differences among groups carefully. A survey can show patterns among respondents; it does not automatically explain why those patterns exist or represent the experience of every person in a given group.
Community Data Dashboards
OIRA is Pratt’s authoritative owner of official institutional data. OIRA partners with the ECC to present selected information about student enrollment, faculty and staff composition, and institutional trends. They support institutional planning, analysis, and community understanding.
The dashboards provide one view of change over time. They do not, by themselves, explain people’s experiences, the causes of demographic change, whether institutional conditions are equitable, or the effectiveness of a particular program or policy. Dashboard users should review accompanying definitions, data scope, reporting categories, update dates, and suppression practices before comparing groups or years.
