Welcome to Pratt Institute’s Summer 2020 online School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS), Integrative Mind and Body Program.  

The Integrative Mind & Body Program will be offering Summer online classes as credit or noncredit course offerings to help aide in wellness as we navigate through social distancing.  Maintaining our health physically, mentally, emotionally and socially is important.  

We are dedicated to providing diverse styles of Yoga, Yogalates, Meditation as well as Contemplative Practice studies that are safe, nurturing and empowering.   

All of the instructors that teach within the Integrative Mind & Body Program are certified in their specialized practice with years of experience in body, mind, and spirit practices.   

REGISTRATION FOR NONCREDIT: The courses on this page are for Pratt students and members of the general public who do not need to earn college credit.

YOGALATES

Yogalates is a hybrid introduction course to Yoga and Pilates, two complementary body/mind exercise regimes.  Both practices strengthen core and postural muscles, while improving balance and coordination. The intended result is overall enhanced fitness and awareness of one’s body for mind-body alignment.

YOGA THERAPY

The Yoga Therapy course is designed to explore and discuss the inner traditions and classic texts of yoga as well as yoga postures. Historic texts including Patanjali’s Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika will be explored.  Students will practice the tools of yoga tradition and reflect on the impact of these tools in daily life.

YOGA OF MEDITATION

Yoga of Meditation is an introduction to the study and practice of the main styles and common threads of meditation.  Students will be introduced to the tools that train the mind’s attention in ever increasing mindful awareness of their inner and outer world.  This mind-body practice supports mental, emotional and physical balance as well as fosters a sense of inner calm.

ASHTANGA YOGA

This course introduces the fundamental practice and philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga with a comprehensive guide to the eight limbs of Ashtanga.  Guiding you through the history and linage of yoga, the fundamentals of breath, as well as develop the ability to perform the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series exercises for wellness.

STRESS REDUCTION THROUGH MINDFULNESS PRACTICES

This course provides an introduction to mindfulness practices to facilitate greater engagement with life and coping with stress.  Mindfulness involves bringing intentional non-judgmental awareness to what is happening in the present moment.  Based on the highly successful Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, this course is highly experimental and uses a seminar-like format designed for college students to explore applications of mindfulness in mind-body awareness, mindful eating, communications skills and stress management.
