All PreCollege courses are taught by Pratt faculty members who are committed to sharing their expertise and experience with the next generation of creatives. Students enrolled in credit-bearing PreCollege classes receive elective credits accepted at Pratt and most other colleges and universities.

Registration

Registration closes 1 week (5 business days) before the start of each course. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited. Pratt PreCollege courses support high school artists, designers, and creative thinkers and are not open to other audiences. 

PLEASE NOTE: Our Instant Enrollment portal only supports non-credit course enrollment for students with a valid SSN. If you're interested in taking a credit course or if you're an  international student please contact the PreCollege office for next steps at precollege@pratt.edu.

 

Technology requirements

  • A laptop or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection 

  • Access to a webcam or phone camera  

  • A scanner or decent digital camera 

  • All students will be given access to the required digital tools through their Pratt Onekey account (e.g. GSuites, Slack, Adobe Suite, and Zoom). Pratt will use these online platforms to connect students with their faculty and it is the student’s responsibility to check that their region/computer is capable of supporting these various platforms and tools.

  • Non-Credit Courses - $600  

  • 1-Credit Courses - $1,035 

Full payment for courses must be completed before the start of any course. Tuition does not include the cost of any materials or lab fees unless otherwise stated.

ARCHITECTURE (1 CREDIT)
ARCH 101SP

This class is designed to introduce students to ideas, principles, concepts, and methods of architectural design in a studio setting. Through a graduated sequence of exercises, students explore the architectural concepts of space, form, function, scale, site, structure, and inhabitation through analytic and generative approaches.

PAINTING AND DRAWING (1 CREDIT)
FAU 100FS

This studio course explores fundamental issues in drawing and painting while enhancing perception and aesthetic awareness of Fine Art.  Students will be familiarized with the visual language of line, shape, composition, proportion, perspective, and color; and are given the tools to express their ideas through variety of techniques. Students will develop critical thinking through close observation of one another's work and produce one art piece per week which may be include in their portfolio for purposes of college admission.

ART & DESIGN DISCOVERY (1 CREDIT) 
FDN-103FS

This course allows students to experience different disciplines in the field art and design. Through hands-on projects and lectures, students will sample areas of study such as fine arts/painting and drawing; illustration (traditional and digital); graphic design; interior design; industrial design; and/or architecture. Among other topics, cutting-edge design ideas—such as how today’s social and ecological needs present opportunities for creative and responsible design—will also be introduced. This elective is perfect for anyone who is curious about studying art, design, or architecture and would like to get a feel for these areas of study.

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT  (NON-CREDIT)

Compose a strong body of work. A solid portfolio is critical to success when applying to art and design schools. Develop the necessary skills to build a personal, thoughtful, and technically proficient portfolio. This course is a noncredit class offering a pass/fail grade.

EXPLORE CREATIVE WRITING (non-credit)

PMPC-400-01 

Craft compelling written compositions. Explore the fundamentals of creative writing while developing writing skills in one or more genres or styles (poetry, essay, fiction, writing for theatre, film, or magazines). Students will examine written language, voice, and the composing process through reading /writing assignments, critical reviews, and peer review/critique. This course is a non-credit class offering a pass/fail grade.
