Since helping to launch Design Works High School in Fall 2023, Pratt continues to support this Brooklyn public school in partnership with Bank Street College of Education. Born out of the NYC Public Schools’ Imagine NYC Schools Initiative, Design Works combines design thinking with a strengths-based, learner-centered approach, empowering students to become creative problem solvers and social justice leaders. Students explore pathways in art equity, tech equity, and housing equity, gaining in-demand skills through internships and engagement with professionals. Pratt’s Office of Research and Strategic Partnerships continues to deepen this relationship, working with Design Works leadership to develop pre-college certifications, licensure preparation, and other opportunities that connect high school students with Pratt’s academic community and resources.

Pratt Institute has joined forces with Arizona State University in a strategic partnership designed to expand educational opportunities across art, design, and pre-college programming. Working closely with ASU leadership, Pratt’s Office of Research and Strategic Partnerships will help develop faculty, student, and leadership exchanges in areas of shared strength, including art, fashion, design, and arts therapies.

The partnership also focuses on building pre-college pathways, with Pratt contributing curriculum development, certificate programming, and strategic guidance as ASU establishes a new K–12 education center. Together, the two institutions will pursue joint funding opportunities, co-authoring grant proposals to support innovative educational initiatives at the municipal, foundation, and federal levels.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to high-quality arts and design education for the next generation of students.

Pratt Institute is partnering with Bioforcetech (BFT) to advance sustainable building materials through OurCarbon, an innovative low-carbon concrete made using biochar from New York State biosolids. Supported by a NYSERDA grant, the project will demonstrate how this carbon-negative material can be used in high-end interior finishes and furnishings. This initiative reflects Pratt’s ongoing commitment to sustainable design, applied research, and cross-sector collaboration to address the built environment’s most pressing challenges.
