Applying for Housing

New First Year

Students apply for housing via www.pratt.edu/hmpapp. The deadline for guaranteed housing is to submit your housing deposit by May 1 and complete your housing application by June 1 for fall semester, and deposit by December 1 and complete your housing application by December 8 for spring semester. Applications submitted after these dates will be waitlisted and assignments offered only if we have space.

Fall semester

Room assignments for new first year students are made starting in late May and are finalized in early July. Students are notified the first week in July.

Spring semester

Room assignments for new students are made starting in mid-November to early December. Students are notified the first to second week in December.

New Transfer

Students apply for housing via www.pratt.edu/hmpapp. Students will be provided with housing as long as space permits. Historically, New Transfer students who apply before June 1 have been housed. However, we do not guarantee housing for new transfer students and applying early makes being assigned more likely.

New Graduate

Students apply for housing via www.pratt.edu/hmpapp. Graduate housing on campus is very limited and we do not guarantee housing for graduate students. Applying early makes being assigned more likely.

Fall semester

Room assignments for new graduate students are made as early as the end of April. Students are notified as assignments are made.

Spring semester

Room assignments for new students are made starting in mid-November to

early December. Students are notified the first to second week in December.

Assignment Policy

Students will be assigned rooms based on preferences indicated on the housing application. The order of assignments and priority for preferences are directly related to the date when a student submits their housing application. Due to the finite number of campus housing spaces, students who submit their housing application early will have a greater chance of having their preferences met than those who submit their applications later. Specific requests for buildings, room types, etc., cannot be guaranteed and if none of the preferred room types or preferences is available, Residential Life and Housing will automatically make an assignment to a room type that is available.

To receive a room assignment, a student must be a full-time registered student at Pratt Institute. A student who will be enrolled less than full-time due to thesis work or another institutionally sponsored reason will need a statement of explanation sent from their department chair or other Institute official to Residential Life and Housing.

Special Housing Dining Accommodations

A student with a physical, mental health or other disability in need of special housing or dietary needs should contact the Learning/Access Center (L/AC). The L/AC website is here:
 https://www.pratt.edu/about/offices/student-affairs/learning-access-center/

The L/AC will determine what documentation is needed to enroll with the L/AC and determine reasonable accommodations. Inquiries relating to Emotional Support Animals should also be directed to the L/AC.

In order to receive full consideration of the request, the request and appropriate  documentation must be received by March 15 for returning students, and April 30 for incoming new students for the fall semester. For the spring semester, documentation  and requests must be received by November 15.
