Pratt Institute is committed to increasing access to instruction in art and design and strengthening and supporting college access and subsequent success in art and design fields for all high school students. Classes are offered after-school, on Saturdays, or in the summer for students in grades 9-12. Programs are carefully designed to strengthen student’s commitment to art and design, build a portfolio, learn about art and design schools and higher educational opportunities, and earn college credit. Students will receive college level instruction from Pratt’s professionally practicing faculty and access to the studios and facilities of the Pratt Institute campuses.
DESIGN INITIATIVE FOR COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT (DICE)
Design Initiative for Community Empowerment (DICE) offers studio classes after school in which students explore design disciplines such as fashion design, construction management, and architecture and urban design. [grades 9-12]
PRATT YOUNG SCHOLARS
Pratt Young Scholars is a need-based, three-year scholarship program that provides art and design instruction and college preparation for motivated high school students. [grades 10-12]
Summer Scholars is a two-week summer intensive program of studio classes and a college preparation curriculum for New York City high school students taking place on the Brooklyn campus in July. [grades 10-11]
SATURDAY ART SCHOOL
Saturday Art School offers a broad range of classes for high school students in which student explore disciplines such as drawing, painting, film, photography, and video game design. [grades 9-12]
Rising juniors or seniors or recently graduated high school seniors can apply to take college-level courses in drawing. Two courses are offered Drawing the Object (1 credit) in the fall and spring in Saturday Art School, and Drawing the Figure (1 credit) in the summer in Summer Scholars. The courses offered are equivalent to full, semester-long courses, compressed into 10, 3 hour long classes. The compressed semester, intense pace, and attention paid to each student makes the classes an ideal time for focused study and serious portfolio development.
