Research at Pratt

Research at Pratt is driven by the interests of our faculty, staff, students, and partners. It takes on many forms, from published scholarship to symposia to product R&D and applied research programs. We conduct research in the classroom, through our Research & Development Studios, and through projects and programs developed by our Faculty Research Fellows, Research Accelerators, and Provost’s Centers.

  • The National Science Foundation (NSF) has approved a second year of funding for the AquaSteady grant in the amount of $1,999,963.00.
  • Pratt Center was awarded a sub-grant of approximately $310,000 over two years,  through the EPA Track 2 Community Change grant (they are partnering with WE ACT as the lead applicant and several other partners). The sub-grant will fund community engagement and participatory policymaking with a coalition of environmental justice groups across the city.
  • Professor Mark Rosin (School of Liberal Arts & Sciences) was awarded a $2 million grant from NSF for Co-Design for Climate Justice: Youth Expression through Science-rich Public Art.

The Research Yard

The Research Yard, located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, is Pratt Institute’s dedicated space for applied creative research, bringing together students, professors, and industry practitioners to discover new approaches to address today’s complex challenges. With a focus on communities, industries, and the environment, the Research Yard enables practitioners and students alike to explore academic models, including digital and applied research that would allow for productive outcomes in areas relating to data visualizations, prototyping or materials production.

Research Open House

At Pratt, we define research broadly and inclusively. Our annual open house is a public showcase of the breadth and depth of the boundary-pushing work that our faculty, staff, and students are doing.

Provost’s Centers & Research Accelerators

Pratt researchers can form collaborative partnerships through a number of different structures. Our five Provost’s Centers and nine Research Accelerators conduct impactful research in many disciplines, from nurturing new artists and designers, to responding to climate change, to catalyzing affordable housing development and stimulating job creation.
