Chairperson of AOS Program
Susan Young began teaching in the Associate Degree Department at Pratt Institute in 2008 and became Chair of the department in 2015. Originally a jazz musician from South Louisiana, Susan works as an illustrator who draws inspiration from the spirited and diverse cultural heritage that she experienced growing up. Susan’s work is primarily in character-driven children’s books but has also worked extensively in design and entertainment illustration/animation.
As an administrator, Susan has focused on developing a strong sense of belonging and community within her department. In an effort to meet the needs of all of her students, Susan began researching how to better support first-generation college students and pursued doctoral research in this area. Susan is motivated by a strong desire to make college more accessible.
