Shani is a Visiting Assistant Professor for Pratt Institute’s Art and Design Education Department as well as a mentor to their pre-service teachers. Aside from her work with the Pratt community, she serves as an Art Educator and an Arts Office Lead for the NYC Department of Education, as well as an Art Education Consultant.  Currently, she steers the Visual Arts program at Elias Howe PS 51, where she has developed the visual arts curriculum for the last 18 years in addition to serving as a PD workshop facilitator to Art Educators and pre-service teachers located citywide and globally. Shani is also a member of the DOE Arts Committee to the Panel for Educational Policy (PEP), a group made up of Arts Educators, Consultants, Museum Directors, Cultural Arts Organizations,  Arts-Based Nonprofits, Arts Education Roundtable members, Department of Cultural Affairs reps, members of Higher Ed Institutions, and more. The committee advocates for equitable arts education, universal access to quality and sustainable arts education programming, and sequential arts education for all New York City public school students as an essential part of a comprehensive and well-rounded education, as outlined in an Arts Education Strategic Plan. Additionally, her work has included advisory services on strategic projects with the Guggenheim, NYU’s Astor Fellows, School Art League, various higher education institutions, and several global and community-based organizations.
