S. Toby Snyder is Visiting Assistant Professor at the Graduate Center for Planning at the Environment. He has taught with us since 2008, focusing on digital graphic representation and Urban Design studios. Toby’s outside professional work lies at the intersection of architecture and planning. He is an Associate and chair of the Associates Group at FXFOWLE Architects, a large multi-disciplinary design firm in New York. Toby’s projects have included sustainable master planning and architecture, ranging from Nordhavnen competition for Copenhagen, the mixed income Navy Green housing in Brooklyn, The Greenwich Lane (a redevelopment of the historic St. Vincent’s Hospital), 35 West 15th Street (35XV), and 269 West 87th Street. Toby’s courses work to cultivate both the skills and appreciation for the role of design in city planning. This focus seeks to reintroduce the creative process as a vital instrument in the creation of the city. Toby is a LEED accredited professional, a Registered Architect in New York, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
