Kate Harding

Biography
Kate Harding is an artist living and working between New York, Los Angeles and rural Missouri who examines the specificity of site and the local to explore concepts of landscape and inter-subjective perception. Exploring the relationship of language and topology, she regularly uses her body’s movement through landscape as a tool of measure, in a process of “field experiments.” Harding’s systematic approach to mapping terrain intersects with speech and movement, inviting consideration of embodied communication and ways of knowing and memory. Interdisciplinary in material and approach, Harding’s background in garment design and construction often provides a metaphoric structure to her work, as does research in science, history, critical philosophy, folklore and the colloquial phrase.
Harding regularly engages in collaborative and curatorial projects and is the host of “Bicoastal Carpool,” a weekly radio program airing live on WPIR Pratt Radio since 2016. Her writing has appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, The Tool Book Project, and 3A Gallery’s recent publication/documentation of Cafe Dan Graham’s Poetry Slam vol. 3. Her work has been reviewed in The Huffington Post, Fiberarts Magazine, American Artist: Drawing Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, ARTILE, flavorpill, ArtScene, The Missourian, and others.
