International Applicants

Welcome international graduate degree applicants! Please read the general application requirements and the specific department requirements, in addition to the international requirements below.

Accepted English Proficiency Tests

International graduate degree applicants and permanent residents must demonstrate proficiency in the English language if their first language is not English. For application to Pratt Institute graduate degree programs your English proficiency test scores must have been taken within two years of your intended starting term.

Pratt accepts the following language tests:

  1. TOEFL (internet test) (Pratt does not accept MyBest Scores)
  2. IELTS Academic
  3. Cambridge English diploma
  4. Pearson Test of English (PTE)

Submitting Your Test Score

Please submit documents and test scores electronically using Pratt’s School code 2669. Please make sure that you register for a test that will enable you to submit your scores by the application deadline. It generally takes four to six weeks to receive the scores, which is typically delivered within a week.

English Language Learner Courses at Pratt

If your English language proficiency score falls into a range that would benefit from additional language support before beginning your degree program, we strongly encourage you to register for the 8-week summer English Language Learning (ELL) online course, offered through Pratt’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). The course strengthens the reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills you’ll use every day in and outside of your classes.
