Xuanyi Li, Wearable Comfort, 2026

Inspired by my younger brother’s worn-out plush dog, my collection explores the psychology of attachment and the profound meaning of “repair.” I focus on individuals lacking a sense of security, for whom a comfort object provides an irreplaceable emotional anchor. I translate this bond into wearable “comfort toys” using tactile, long-pile faux furs and distressed textures that mimic years of affection. Through oversized, enveloping silhouettes and a muted, healing palette, the garments offer a protective embrace. This series is not just clothing; it is a sanctuary of warmth and tactile memory for anyone seeking a sense of belonging. This collection transforms “comfort toys” into modular, multifunctional garments. I designed with detachable components that can be repurposed as scarves, shawls, or even free-style accessories, creating a dynamic, protective layering system. I encourage the wearer to interact with the clothing, allowing them to personalize their own sanctuary and redefine their relationship with fashion through endless possibilities.
