Xingyi Liu, Packing and Unpacking, 2026

Packing and Unpacking explores the fragile condition of “home” through the experience of constant movement and relocation. Drawing inspiration from everyday packing systems— cardboard boxes, vacuum compression, and protective materials—the collection transforms these familiar objects into sculptural garment structures. Exaggerated silhouettes, body-print linings, and transformable constructions create tension between packing and unpacking. The garments blur the boundary between protection and restriction, positioning clothing as both container and compression device. Balancing humor with quiet pressure, the collection embraces imperfection, instability, and the critical moment of chaos before order is restored.
