Sophia Albaisa, TETHER, 2026

My thesis explores an architecture of tension, examining how fabric, the body, weight, and invisible forces interact and connect. At Pratt, I revisited formative inspirations—family and personal experiences with dress. Brutalist references from my grandfather’s work inform exposed seams and structural clarity, while my father’s automotive designs inspire precision and movement. Magnetic closures enable pieces to detach and reconfigure instantly; an instant alteration. Using deadstock fabrics and adjustable construction, the collection responds to bodily fluctuations caused by PCOS, shaping a more adaptive, responsive approach to dressing.
