Lia Skøien is endlessly inspired by the Norwegian folkdress, the Bunad. Embroidered, embellished, re-sewn, and passed down through generations – the Bunad represents the Self, showing how identity evolves over time.

With a commercial pilot father, Air Force grandparents, and stewardess mother all wearing replaceable, structured uniforms that actively conceal the traits of the wearer – her collection combines the organic folkdress with the inflexible uniform to suggest a middle ground in our identities.

Aprons, pilot striped epaulettes, parachute back-packs, and stewardess scarves are re-developed through Skøien’s prints and textiles derived from the Bunad, reflecting on identity, craft, and heritage.
