Carina Yixin Xu, From Apart, A Part, 2026

From Apart, A Part investigates the paradox of intimacy and distance within contemporary urban life. The collection reflects on the quiet tension between isolation and connection, in environments where people coexist in close proximity yet remain emotionally detached. Through draped silhouettes, deconstructed garments, and modular forms, the designs investigate how clothing can create new relationships between body, space, and object. Garments extend, transform, and sometimes become bags, suggesting temporary structures of protection, support, and proximity. The collection approaches fashion as a spatial language that allows separation and connection to exist at the same time.
