Caleb Callahan, Cork, Kerala, 2026

The collection Cork, Kerala employs a fashion approach to Irish and Indian anti-colonialism. In these two nations fights for self-determination, clothes are used as political protest, revolutionary uniform, and the expression of community. The connections between these two cultures are highlighted, and their differences are collaged together in order to highlight their inherent anti-colonial connection. Special attention is paid to the craft histories of both of these nations, specifically weaving and embroidery. The translation of far and recent histories into today’s fashion objects is meant to speak to the looming influence of colonialism and imperialism even today. Special attention is paid to Ireland and India, but these forces extend to every corner of the globe. This collection hopefully offers an opportunity for a fashion approach to combating these great institutional forces.
