Alice Li, Between Stations, 2026

Jianglan Li’s thesis collection explores movement and memory through the everyday experience of riding the subway in New York City. Observing the rhythm of acceleration, waiting, and interruption within the transit system, she interprets these moments as a shared urban condition. The collection translates the speed of the train into pleats and layered structures, while pauses and transitions appear through color shifts and modular silhouettes. Patterns inspired by tactile paving and subway maps become surface textures that reference navigation and direction. Through unisex garments, the work reflects the feeling of being in between places, capturing both physical movement and the quiet stillness of moments spent traveling between destinations.
