IMPORTANT INFORMATION

REFRIGERATED MEDICINE

Please contact our Health Services Department at 718.399.4542 or email health@pratt.edu to arrange any delivery for medicine requiring special handling.

PERISHABLES

The Mail Center is not equipped to store perishable items and cannot be held liable for any deterioration or spoilage.

If you must send a perishable item, please ensure the package is addressed correctly and include the student’s current mobile number so we can contact them immediately. A non-international number would be preferred.

STUDENT MISADDRESSED MAIL

In certain instances, we encounter scenarios where multiple students possess strikingly similar or identical names. Ensuring that all communications contain precise information is paramount to ensure swift delivery and mitigate the risk of unintended misdeliveries. Below, you’ll find guidelines on correctly addressing mail intended for your student.

DO NOT SEND CASH THROUGH THE MAIL

Consider gift cards, prepaid credit cards, or money orders if you want a safer payment option.

YOUR STUDENT’S MAILING ADDRESS

It is important to note that the student’s dorm address is not used as their mailing address.

HOW TO ADDRESS THEIR MAIL

Each resident is assigned a unique five-digit unit number before or after move-in. The unit number is part of the resident’s mailing address and must always be used when addressing mail and packages.

The unit number remains consistent throughout their stay as an active resident, regardless of any dorm or room changes.

Please use this address format to send any mail and packages.

First Name Last Name (As it appears on their Pratt ID)
200 Willoughby Avenue, Unit XXXXX
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Sample
John Doe
200 Willoughby Avenue, Unit 57500
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Note: The assigned unit number will be exclusively given to the student. You must obtain it from your student.

MISADDRESSED MAIL

It is essential to include the unit number must be included in the address line of all correspondence. Additionally, please ask your student to notify you of any preferred name change so that the mail matches their Pratt ID name.

Mail that bears incorrect names may be misleading and can result in it being misdelivered or returned.

Insufficiently addressed mail will be set aside to be researched by mail center staff and re-addressed, which will significantly delay the delivery of the mail. If the mail is unidentifiable, it will be returned to the sender.

MAIL & PACKAGE PICK-UP PROCEDURE

MAIL & PACKAGES

Mail and packages are received, processed, and picked up at our mail center.

Once a mailpiece or package has been received and processed, an email notification is sent to the student’s pratt.edu email, alerting them that a package is ready for pick-up.

Certain carriers may update the tracking information before completing the delivery. Therefore, the student should wait for our email notification before attempting to collect any items; this will confirm that the package(s) was received, processed, and ready for pickup.

PARCEL LOCKERS – PACKAGE PICK-UP

Our mail center is equipped with convenient Parcel Lockers for your use. These lockers are accessible around the clock, seven days a week. However, access outside regular hours requires a Pratt ID to enter the building.

When a package is placed in the locker, the student has 24 hours to retrieve it. Inretrieved Items past the 24-hour limit will be moved behind the counter and can be retrieved at the customer service window during regular business hours.

It is essential to know that insufficiently addressed packages will not be placed in a locker.

CUSTOMER SERVICE WINDOW – PACKAGE PICK-UP

Miss-addressed packages or items too large for our parcel lockers can be picked up at our customer service window during regular business hours.

Packages not claimed within ten business days will be returned to the sender.

Students visiting the Mail Center Customer Service Window must adhere to  the following:

– They must present their Pratt ID at the window for all mail and package pick-up. Pratt IDs are the only form of ID accepted in the Mail Center.

– Pratt Mail Services will only deliver packages to the recipient and not to anyone else, including parents and legal guardians.
