Recruitment and Hiring

Policy

Office
Human Resources

A search is required to fill all regular full-time position vacancies at Pratt. The purpose of the search process is to provide the Institute with a diverse pool of qualified candidates. Vacant positions will be advertised on the Working@Pratt page of the Pratt website and in other publications and websites appropriate to the particular position to attract suitable candidates.

Search Committees

For certain positions the search will be conducted through a search committee, comprised of Pratt employees with knowledge and responsibilities related to the vacant position. Search committees will be utilized for all full-time faculty, division head, director, department head, and other positions of a comparable level or with policy making responsibility. Search committees may also be utilized for other vacant positions as necessary and in the discretion of the hiring department.

Recruitment of Part-Time Faculty

Recruitment of part-time faculty is conducted directly by the academic department where the opportunity exists. Part-time faculty opportunitites are generally not advertised.

New Hires

Newly hired employees should contact HR on or before the first day of employment to complete all necessary employment forms. New employees will need to demonstrate proof of eligibility to work in the US at the time of hire. Original documents demonstrating identity and proof of work authorization are required to complete the I-9 form. A list of acceptable documents is provided on the I-9 form (attached). It is essential that newly hired employees arrange to complete all necessary employment forms to ensure legal compliance, provide the employee with necessary authorizations for Pratt systems and facilities, and to avoid any delay in the employee’s payroll.

Orientation

A separate orientation will be scheduled for benefits-eligible employees to provide a comprehensive review of available benefits and allow the employee to enroll, if necessary, as well as provide general information concerning employment, the Pratt campus and environment, introduction to Institute resources, and relevant policies and procedures.

Faculty Orientation

New faculty orientation is held prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to facilitate the employment processing of new faculty members as well as providing a comprehensive review of applicable benefits and other information concerning Pratt employment. Faculty are also given an introduction to Pratt’s academic policies and procedures and to various educational resources available to them.
