Biography
Lucas Mertehikian is Director of the Humanities Institute at the New York Botanical Garden, where he has led academic and public programs including The African American Garden, curated by Dr. Jessica B. Harris, and the Plant Humanities Conversations, in collaboration with Dr. Yota Batsaki. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Plant Humanities at Dumbarton Oaks, where he served as managing editor of the Plant Humanities Lab and the JSTOR Daily series “Plant of the Month.” He is the co-editor of Imagining a New Natural History: Latin American Cultural Production in the Anthropocene (University Press of Florida; with Nicolás Campisi) and Unpredictable Architectures: The Aesthetics and Politics of Gardening in Latin America (under contract, Brill; with Valeria Meiller). His writing has appeared in the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, the Journal of Cultural Analytics, and Cuadernos de Literatura, among other venues. He holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University.
