Dr. Bales’ paleoanthropological research centers on the early diversification of apes. She is a morphologist applying total evidence methodologies to the interpretation of the fossil record. As an instructor her teaching is geared towards helping students understand how to integrate biological and ecological concepts into their worldview, challenging them to use evolutionary theory to help situate themselves in our current geologic moment.
