Academic Senate Exhibition – “Textile Reflections on Academic Freedom”

March 25 – May 15, 2024 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Ground floor of Pratt Institute Library

Open: M-F 9 am-10 pm / Sat 12 pm-7:30 pm

Join us for an inspiring display of collaborative textile art at the Academic Senate Exhibition. Created during the Fall Plenary, a dialogic gathering around a topic that is open to all on campus, which was held during December 2023, this collective piece addresses the crucial topic of Academic Freedom.

Guided by prompts provided by the organizing committee – including faculty members Amy Ballmer, Dean Sidaway, Amit Kalra, Nida Abdullah, and Michael Enright – attendees engaged in meaningful conversations and utilized various materials including organic fabrics dyed with dyes from the Pratt Dye Garden. Faculty from the Fashion Department, Dean Sidaway, Gina Gregorio, and Olivia Eaton, assisted the participants on surface techniques. The artwork represents a diverse range of perspectives and serves as a visual representation of the many facets of freedom of expression within our campus community.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the culmination of collective creativity and thoughtful reflection on academic freedom.
