Annabelle Selldorf, BArch ’85, was asked by Time to nominate a monument or building that encapsulates the spirit of America for the country’s 250th anniversary. Selldorf chose The David Geffen Galleries at LACMA (Los Angeles), designed by Peter Zumthor, who studied industrial design and architecture as an exchange student at Pratt in 1966. “To me, what is most surprising about the design is the human scale: The building’s large footprint can never be seen all at once. It is a work of architecture, but comes across as urban design.”
