The BlueBlocks Floating Gardens

A group of students is gathered by a lake, engaged in an environmental project. Some individuals are kneeling beside a floating platform covered with plants, while others stand nearby, holding additional plants. The scene is surrounded by trees and a natural setting, with clear water reflecting the greenery. The atmosphere appears collaborative and focused on ecological restoration.

“The Floating Gardens Curriculum aims to develop a comprehensive educational program centered around sustainable floating garden systems. These modular, floating marshland structures provide innovative solutions for climate resilience, wetland agriculture, and near-shore restoration.

The curriculum is designed for schools, environmental organizations, and community groups to promote ecological awareness, hands-on learning, and sustainable practices. Interdisciplinary at its core, the project integrates community-based approaches, science, and nature-inspired solutions to address climate challenges.

Initially supported by the Pratt Teconic Fellowship and further developed in partnership with the RETI Center, the next phase focuses on creating a stand-alone curriculum and how-to guide.

This will enable educators, conservation groups, and local communities to adapt and expand the Floating Gardens Initiative. The project is supported by the 2025 STEAMplant Sirovich Family Faculty & Staff Project Grant.”
