"For this project, I created a video exploring how Sofia Coppola uses color in her films to set mood, shape characters, and introduce recurring themes. I’ve always admired her ability to create emotional depth through visual choices, and I wanted to highlight how her color palettes - whether soft pastels that suggest isolation or warm tones that evoke longing - play such an important role in her storytelling. By pulling scenes from across her work, I tried to show how intentional and consistent her use of color really is.
This piece serves as a companion to my final project on Coppola as a visual artist, where I focused on color as her signature tool. It connects to Expanse because it reflects exploration and growth: revisiting familiar films through the lens of color theory expanded my understanding of them and pushed me to see beyond the surface. The Color Theory class at SCPS was a big inspiration, especially our unit on color psychology, which gave me the framework to analyze her work in a deeper, more creative way."
