Portals, Hannah Goldberg

Medium: Digital

“Portals is a visual study in memory and place. The series explores how we experience space, reimagining my travels through layered compositions. By assembling visual fragments, Portals reflects on how we remember place—not as a whole, but as shifting impressions that stay with us long after we’ve left.

The project began in my Photoshop class as a series of digital collages created from my own travel photography and found imagery. It later expanded into a printed book developed in InDesign, uniting process and presentation across courses to form a cohesive visual narrative.”

A digital collage showing multiple hardcover books laid out on a diagonal grid. Each book cover features photographic scenes of European architecture, including stone streets, whitewashed buildings, and staircases. Small grayscale 3D figures—people posed in swimming, reclining, or diving positions—are placed atop or beside the books. One spine reads “FRANCE” and another “GREECE.” The background is a soft gray with cast shadows that give the arrangement depth.
