By Duke Riley
Photograph of Duke Riley in The Acorn Submarine, (2007), c-print, 44 x 30 inches (111.8 x 76.2 cm) Photographer, Chuck Dee; Magnan Metz Gallery To protest the U.S. government’s infringement on civil liberties, Riley built a replica of a Revolutionary War submarine that was used to attack a British flagship and attempted to reenact the mission by navigating his vessel toward the docked Queen Mary 2 in New York City’s harbor. Although arrested, Riley also won considerable critical attention for his audacious and imaginative act.
