AI Systems for Creative and Cognitive Augmentation

"This research explores how artificial intelligence systems can be designed to augment human capability through intuitive and human-centered interfaces. The project presents two case studies that examine AI augmentation in different domains: creative performance and cognitive organization.

The first case study, V.J.A.I. (Visual Jockey Artificial Intelligence), is a tactile AI instrument designed for DJs that generates visuals in real time during live performance. The name references the tradition of the DJ (Disc Jockey) and VJ (Visual Jockey), extending it through artificial intelligence to create a new performance tool. Traditional VJ software requires extensive preparation and technical expertise, often forcing performers to rely on complex software workflows or dedicated visual technicians. V.J.A.I. replaces these barriers with a physical interface that allows DJs to steer generative visuals using simple gestures such as turning a dial or pressing a button. This approach allows performers to remain focused on the audience while the AI dynamically generates visual content that evolves with the music.

The second case study, THABIT, explores AI systems designed to help individuals organize and stabilize constant streams of thoughts and ideas. The name THABIT, derived from the Arabic word (ثابت) for “steady” or “grounded,” reflects the system’s purpose: creating structure and clarity for minds that are often overloaded with unfinished ideas, tasks, and responsibilities.

THABIT is an AI system designed for minds that generate ideas faster than traditional tools can organize them. Many creators and independent professionals struggle with constant unfinished ideas, tasks, reminders, and financial concerns that compete for attention. THABIT provides a structured place to unload these thoughts through voice or text, automatically transforming them into organized tasks, priorities, and financial insights. Instead of forcing users to manage multiple apps and systems, THABIT creates a unified dashboard that helps individuals understand what matters most, what needs attention next, and how their work and finances are evolving.

Together, these projects investigate how artificial intelligence can function not as a replacement for human creativity or decision-making, but as an interface layer that supports human cognition."
