2026 STEAMplant Initiative Projects

By Mark Rosin, Juliana Toloza Serna, and Sam Asher

Born from Pratt’s mission to act as a living laboratory for craft and creativity, STEAMplant’s grant programs serve the institute and greater New York City communities by facilitating collaboration between the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and “art” as defined by the diverse disciplines pursued at Pratt.

Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between creative and investigative disciplines by providing financial and on-campus resources. The initiative’s annual project cycle continues to expand STEM engagement across broader audiences.

This year, our winning teams include projects rebuilding the city’s climate-resilient wetlands, regenerative practices focused on soil health first aid, geometric principles behind Japanese fabric dying, and artistic ecological impact.

A clear glass filled with water is positioned at the center, topped with a circular lid featuring colorful floral designs. Surrounding the glass are several similar circular lids, each displaying unique watercolor patterns in various colors and shapes, resting on a dark background.
