MAIL CENTER USE PRIVILEGES

USE OF THE MAIL CENTER

Mail Center services are exclusively available to students currently residing in campus dorms. Once you have relocated from the campus dormitories, these services will no longer be accessible.

Please refrain from sending mail to your previous on-campus address. Any incoming correspondence will either be declined or promptly returned to the sender.

YOUR CAMPUS MAILING ADDRESS

Please be aware that your dormitory’s address should not be used as your designated mailing address, as they are not the same.

HOW TO ADDRESS YOUR MAIL:

A unique five-digit unit number is assigned to each resident upon move-in. The given unit number is part of your mailing address and must always be used when addressing your incoming mail and or packages.

Your unit number is not to be confused with your dorm room number – they are not the same. The unit number remains consistent throughout your stay as an active resident, regardless of any changes to your dorm or room.

Provide this address format to receive mail and packages. Avoid using nicknames and follow the correct format to avoid delays or errors.

First Name Last Name (As it appears on your Pratt ID)
200 Willoughby Avenue Unit XXXXX
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Sample
John Doe
200 Willoughby Avenue, Unit 57500
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Note: If you wish to use a preferred name, it must match your Pratt ID.

Please be advised that your mailing address is intended solely for your personal use and should not be disclosed to others to receive mail or correspondence.

To safeguard your personal information, including your unit number, we will not share it with anyone. If you need information, please visit us in person with your Pratt ID card or email us from your pratt.edu account.

MISADDRESSED MAIL

Please include your unit number in all correspondence addresses. Failing to provide the correct unit number may result in misdelivered or returned mail.

Insufficiently addressed mail will be set aside to be researched by mail center staff and re-addressed, which significantly delays the delivery of your mail and or packages. If we fail to identify the mailpiece, it will be returned to the sender.

MAIL PREPARATION & PICK-UP PROCEDURE

YOUR MAIL & PACKAGES

Your mail and packages are received, processed, and picked up at our mail center.

Once a mailpiece or package has been received and processed, you will receive an email notification at your pratt.edu address, alerting you that your parcel is ready for pick-up.

Certain carriers may update the tracking information before completing the delivery. Therefore, we request that you wait for our email notification before attempting to collect them. This confirms that the package(s) was received, processed, and is ready for pickup.

PARCEL LOCKERS – PACKAGE PICK-UP

Our mail center is outfitted with convenient Parcel Lockers for your use. These lockers are accessible around the clock, seven days a week. You will require your Pratt ID to enter the building if you need access outside regular hours.

When a package is placed in the lockers, you will automatically receive a notification via email. This notification will include a one-time QR code or a 6-digit code.

The Smart lockers have two kiosks, one on the north and the other on the south. The notification email will specify either the north or south side location of the locker bank where the package is stored.

When you receive a notification, head over to the proper Smart Locker kiosk, enter the code, or scan the QR code that you received in the notification. The locker will automatically open once you’ve signed up for the package. After retrieving your package, gently close the locker door and click the “exit” button on the kiosk touchscreen to complete the process. Please ensure the locker is completely closed before exiting the kiosk app.

Important note: items left in the lockers for more than 24 hours will be moved behind the counter and retrieved during regular business hours at the customer service window.

SMART LOCKER APP

Downloading and using the LuxerOne smartphone app will bypass the kiosks, speeding up your package retrieval and creating a touchless process. The LuxerOne app is FREE to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

CUSTOMER SERVICE WINDOW – PACKAGE PICK-UP

Mail, miss-addressed packages, or packages that do not fit in our parcel lockers can be collected at our customer service window during our hours of operation.

Packages not claimed within ten business days will be returned to the sender.

When visiting the Mail Center Customer Service Window, please note the following:

  • You must present your Pratt ID at the window for all mail and package pick-up. Pratt IDs are the only form of ID accepted in the Mail Center.
  • Pratt Mail Services will only deliver packages to the recipient and not to anyone else, including parents and legal guardians.

MOVING OUT – SUMMER AND WINTER BREAKS

On your last day of residence, please visit the mail center before you leave for the dorms. This is a quick but necessary task to ensure you don’t leave any important mail or packages behind. Your attention to this detail helps us keep everything organized and ensures no critical correspondence is left behind.

NOTE: Packages left behind after the move-out date will be returned to the sender.

TIP: To ensure timely delivery of essential documents, notify mailing companies six weeks before moving out of your dorm.

SENDING STUFF BACK HOME

If you’re shipping your belongings home, you may drop off prepared and currier prepaid (pre-labeled) packages at the Mail Center. We only accept packets with a prepaid shipping label. Items without a prepaid label or waiting for a carrier call tag will not be accepted at the Mail Center.

FORWARDING YOUR MAIL

Due to Pratt’s business address, the Post Office cannot accept a “Change Of Address” request. The mail center will be forwarding your mail Instead.  Here’s how to set it up.

  • Go to this LINK and fill out the forwarding information. Make sure to read the address restrictions on the form.
  • Let us know if you’re returning to live on campus in the fall.

The Mail Center will forward your mail for thirty days from the move-out date.

Mail forwarding service is an exclusive USPS service, and it can only be used to forward mail to a domestic, off-campus address. Regrettably, carriers like UPS, FedEx, and DHL do not provide forwarding options. It’s important to note that USPS does not extend its forwarding service to international mail.

SUMMER BREAK

It’s essential to arrange for mail forwarding before leaving campus.

If you plan to come back to live on-campus in the fall and have a confirmed room assignment, the mail center will handle mail forwarding throughout the summer break.

Please note that we cannot hold mail during the break. The mail will be returned to the sender if we don’t have a forwarding address.

For non-returning students, the Mail Center will forward mail for thirty days (30) starting from the move-out date.

WINTER BREAK

The Mail Center will hold your packages over the winter break. If you send something that will not arrive before you leave, it will be here waiting for you upon your return. There is no mail forwarding during Winter Break.

Please note — if you expect essential bills, notify the company to inform them of your temporary absence from the campus and ask them to mail correspondence to your designated address.

If you mistakenly send a package to the Mail Center during the break, you can email us a PDF shipping label to have your parcel shipped to you. Otherwise, it will be here waiting for you upon your return.

TRACKING A LETTER OR PACKAGE

First-Class regular mail does not have tracking capabilities. USPS tracking options are registered insured, certified/return receipt, or delivery confirmation.

OPERATING A COMMERCIAL BUSINESS

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES ARE PROHIBITED

Utilizing your Pratt mailing address for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. The Mail Center’s services are designed solely for the personal and individual needs of the students residing on campus.

We request that all campus community members adhere to this policy to maintain the integrity and seamless operation of our mail center’s services.
