Creative Explorations: What Does “Belonging” Mean for the Pratt Community and Beyond?
Creative public engagement, or “social practice,” is being explored in different ways at Pratt. For example, celebrated artist and School of Art Visiting Fellow Shaun Leonardo came to Pratt last fall to begin a dialogue, asking Pratt students, faculty, and staff as well as others outside the Institute challenging questions around community and belonging. Leonardo and Fine Arts chair Jane South talk more about how Pratt sees itself in the broader community in this episode of the Hyperallergic "Art Movements" podcast series, and Leonardo discussed his process and work with the Pratt community in this Q&A feature.
Conversations on campus have been taking shape through events such as Long Table: A Conversation at Pratt and Leonardo’s work with students in the Studio in Social Practice.
To further engage dialogue around the topic of community, workshops are being held across campus with students, faculty, and staff exploring ideas related to invisibility, vulnerability, and other prompts and leading to a consideration of Open Exchange: Belonging, which is the name of the School of Art Lecture event taking place on April 9.
