The Pratt School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) welcomed 93 students from the EBM Business School in France this past May for an immersive, week-long English language program. The initiative was supported by a grant from the French government to boost English learning following COVID-19 disruptions and was done with longtime SCPS partner International Double Degree Studies (IDDS).
The students attended an orientation on Pratt’s Brooklyn campus to meet the SCPS team and learn about the exciting plans for the week, packed with opportunities to practice conversational English. The group visited several iconic NYC locations including the High Line, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Washington Square Park, and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
The contexts of these specific sites were used as jumping off points for students to practice conversational English. Throughout their daily trips and activities, SCPS faculty led exercises on how to speak about American culture, sports, historical locations, and more.
Students received a certificate of completion at the end of the week. The program is an example of SCPS’s continued development of English language programming, following the launch of ELL Portfolio in the summer of 2023.
“SCPS is committed to providing innovative, creative, and quality educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds,” said Maira Seara, dean of Pratt’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. “This custom training, grown from our ELL Portfolio Program, is just one example of how SCPS’ experiential and flexible programs are uniquely positioned to provide students with an impactful experience.”
Throughout the summer, SCPS will host additional student groups, as well as custom programs and corporate learning initiatives at Pratt’s Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses.
