The burgeoning gaming industry has grown to more than solely an entertainment business. Today, game arts is considered to be one of the most exciting industries in the tech field, with innovations and technology exploring what is possible in fields ranging from architecture to medicine.

Pratt Institute’s Digital Arts Department, in the School of Art, is launching a new BFA in Game Arts beginning fall semester 2021. Admissions applications are open now for fall 2021.  The application deadline is January 5, 2021.

The rigorous program will equip students with the knowledge and unique skill-set needed to enter the dynamic and growing industry of game design. By fostering the development of technical skills along with mastery of game theory, the new program aims to develop artists and designers who will push the boundaries of game design.

“Pratt has a history of educating students who are artists and makers,” said Peter Patchen, Chair of Digital Arts. “In that tradition, the BFA in Game Arts has been designed to address every aspect of game theory, aesthetics, and technical skills so that graduates will be able to create unique and compelling games.”

Composed of 126 credits to be taken over the course of eight semesters, the new program will equip students with the technical skills necessary to enter the rapidly-growing gaming industry upon graduation.

In addition to core courses in game theory, design and production, the students will choose from a vast array of elective courses in the Digital Arts Department, further exploring the fields of animation and interactive arts.
