WHO: Pratt Artists League (PAL) and the History of Art and Design Student Association (HADSA) will present an exhibition of work by 28 first- and second-year master of fine arts students. The exhibition, titled “Fracture,” explores the topography of the mind in a collaboration between graduate student curators and fine artists at Pratt Institute showcasing new talent and fostering collaboration and innovation.
The exhibition is curated by master’s degree candidates in the History of Art and Design department: Sophie Buonomo, Ali Clark, Elizabeth Meyer, Janine Sleem, and Clara Wanatirta.
PAL serves as a liaison between the fine arts administration and the graduate student body and seeks to further professional relationships for students in the New York arts community through organizing and executing open studios and on and off-campus exhibitions and events.
WHAT: Through traditional media, interactive installations, and digital technology, the show attempts a narrative of fragmented thoughts and experiences with the understanding that our collective fractures together move towards the receding horizon of experiential unity. The show explores the fractured topography of the mind and the world that shapes our sense of place, relationship, and self. Impermanence defines our physical selves and surroundings, and this exhibition seeks to understand the balance between this fragility and the conviction that the creation of art is still worthwhile, according to the curators.

WHY: The exhibition provides the public with the opportunity to view the extraordinary talent of both the students in Pratt’s nationally recognized Graduate Fine Arts department and the students in Pratt’s history of art and design program. Alumni from Pratt’s M.F.A. program have received such prestigious awards as the Joan Mitchell Foundation M.F.A. Grant, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Artist Trust Grant for Artist Projects, Tides Foundation Lambent Fellowship, and Urban Artist Initiative Fellowship, among others.
