Biography

Sohee is an artist, educator, and academic researcher whose current work explores adult transformative learning through artmaking that uses traditional and creative technologies. Since 2015, she has been teaching various levels of sculpture & mixed media classes as an adjunct instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she is also a student teaching supervisor. Her research areas include creative technologies and STEAM, teacher education, arts integration in adult learning, transformative learning in arts, critical pedagogy in arts, and the role of creative constraints in learning. Sohee has chaired and presented her research at the National Art Education Association (NAEA), the College Art Association (CAA), Foundation in Art and Theory in Education (FATE), and Society for the History of Technology (SHOT). She is a co-founder of Thingspace, a maker space art studio at Columbia University that offers STEAM workshops for youth and teachers in NYC. In addition, she currently serves as a teaching artist at the Civic Art Lab/Greenspace NYC. As a mixed media artist, she has presented her work at the Korean Cultural Council Gallery, Interstate Projects Gallery, DIFFA at Pier 94, Visual Arts Gallery, the Macy Art Gallery, and Snug Harbor Gallery.
