Jason Urban is an artist, writer, and teacher based in Brooklyn, NY. Urban holds a BFA from Kutztown University (Kutztown, PA) and an MA/MFA from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA). His prints, drawings, and installations have been featured in numerous venues both nationally and internationally as have his collaborative works with Leslie Mutchler.
For ten years prior to relocating to Brooklyn, Urban taught Print at the University of Texas at Austin where he was Area Head of Print, Director of the Guest Artist in Print Program (GAPP), and founder of the UT Riso Room, a student-run risographic service bureau and image research lab. Teaching responsibilities included all levels of print from Introduction to Print to Advanced Print Workshop, freshman Core classes, all-majors special topics courses (Print in The Digital Age and Zines & DIY Publishing) as well as graduate-level critique classes. He has taught at a number of schools including Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Tyler School of Art (Temple University), Maryland Institute College of Art, and Bucknell University.
As a supplement to his research and teaching, Urban co-wrote and -edited Printeresting.org, the thinking person's favorite online resource for interesting printmaking miscellany. In 2011, Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation awarded Printeresting an ArtsWriters Grant. In addition to hundreds of Printeresting posts, Urban has also written numerous essays for the journal Art in Print.
