Bethany Ides is a writer, artist, teacher, theater-maker, organizer, and Co-Director of DOORS UNLIMITED, which is a generative structure hosting research in convocational technologies and speculative folklife. Her community-based performance work has been presented at venues such as the Harbourfront Centre, Knockdown Center, Brooklyn Museum, Fragmental Museum, Mandragoras Art Space, Tritriangle, FADO Performance Art Centre, CounterPULSE, Dixon Place, Sunview Luncheonette, Worksound Gallery, St Marks Poetry Project, Habitable Spaces, and BOMB magazine's Instagram account, as well as in free and open public spaces in cities and small towns across the U.S. and Canada. Her poetry, scripts, and critical-theoretical essays have most recently appeared or are forthcoming in C Magazine, The Candidate Journal: Psychoanalytic Currents, Ear / Wave / Event, Temporary Art Review, Feminist Temporalities and fields magazine. Ides's research interests include applied drama, decolonizing education, poetics, community ritual, post-digital conceptions of public, ephemeral communications, and impossibility. Her courses at Pratt often focus on particular aspects of relation and ways the pedagogical social environment reflect them. Topics like Play, Dialogue, Interiority, Sharing, and Pleasure become structuring principles for a mode of inquiry that actively combines collaborative experimentation with academic study.
