My historical research and writing, design, and conceptual artwork, reflect a preoccupation with material culture, cities, and globalization.
My writing and German-to-English translations on cities, tourism, and urban architecture, contemporary art and essays have appeared in such venues as The Journal of Architecture, The Brooklyn Rail, Artdish, and in edited volumes published by Palgrave MacMillan, Columbia University, and Ashgate Press.
In addition to historical writing and reviews, my design and artwork, done under the moniker of "The Tourist," incorporates handicraft, digital media, film, photography, assemblage of found objects, and performance. Together, the pieces explore a range of themes from the relationship between leisure and discipline, cities and tourism, to women and unpaid labor, monotony, and urbanity.
